Dear Atlanta,

(even this is not as cute in May...)

Do you know what day it is? It is now the ninth day of January. We are more than two full weeks past Christmas, and yet what do I see all around me? Remnants of the Christmas season. Oh, sure, some of you used white lights on the tree in your front yard, thinking you could get away with it year round. But by golly, they went up the first week of December, and I KNOW that your original intent was for holiday decor. Take them down. Take. Them. Down. And yes, I'm also looking at you, Swoozie's in Brookhaven. Did you think I would be too taken with the "Clearance" sign in the window to notice those giant wreaths above the door?

(my words; not my picture. just so you know.)

Me, I'm a take-down-the-tree-on-the-26th kind of a girl. My sister, she saves it for New Year's Day, and I'm okay with that, too. Even you 12-Days-of-Christmas types who wanna press it till the seventh of January, whatever. But it's time. Time to do it. And as you go forth and un-decorate, take heart... With the Christmas season now starting shortly after Labor Day (or who knows—in this economy, the holiday shopping season might start July 5), you only have 8 short months to go till you can drag your icicle lights, ginormous Santas and inflatable penguin snowglobes out again.

XOXO!

Lindsay
P.S... On second thought, that picture up top? It probably would be as cute in May. But I'm still not gonna put it out on my lawn.

Oops. I'd better take the wreath off my front door. It just started to turn brown, anyway!

I have to admit that Christmas starts for us on Dec. 5 with Sinter Klaus (Danish holiday) and ends on Jan. 6 with Dia de los reyes (Spanish holiday). But even with that our tree was down on January 1. (Partly because I couldn't believe the ornaments had survived the boys for that long and I wasn't sure how much longer they could survive and partly because I just wanted my house back in order.
