Kitchen Accoutrements

Next up in the series: the bread machine. I have gone through different periods of love and non-use with this particular machine. It's old--David had it in college (don't ask me why, but he brought the best small appliances into this marriage: the breadmaker and the waffle iron/sandwich press. Go figure.)

Anyway. Currently the bread machine has two main uses: I use the timer function to make bread Sunday morning. I usually do a whole grain sweet potato bread, so there is lots of fiber and protein to keep us from growling during church. I throw everything in Saturday night before bed, and in the morning we have fresh, warm bread while we are doing the whirling dervish-thing getting ready for worship.

The other thing it gets used for is our weekly pizza night. This happens Sunday night. Before church, I throw everything in, hit the '1st Rise' button, and when we get home, we have dough. Hurrah! So easy.

I will say this if you are considering purchasing a bread machine: Bread machines are finicky creatures. Follow the manufacturer's directions on order of ingredients, and test all recipes before you make them for a high-profile event. We've had ours a long time and sometimes a new recipe will still yield a big ole brick.

Here's my dough recipe, then some pics of last week's turkey pepperoni pizza.

Dough:
1C plus 2T warm water
2T olive oil
3 C flour (I use half spelt, half white)
1 t salt
1 t sugar
2 t yeast (if you like super floofy pizza, use 3)

before churchafter church
after bakingyes, please. put that in my belly
